Hi, I’m Katie Bernal-Silva!
As the founder of Amber Fern, I’m driven by a profound love for travel. My journey began in Croatia, where I studied winemaking on a vineyard in Krk Island. This experience sparked my passion for exploring new places and cultures, ultimately inspiring the creation of Amber Fern. Today, I’m based “where the ocean is bluer” – Ericeira, Portugal.
The name “Amber Fern” was inspired during a hike in Madeira’s Laurisilva Forest, where I noticed native ferns transforming from deep amber to lush green. This image left a lasting impression and became a symbol of my belief in the transformative power of travel.
Every travel style is different, and here’s an idea of mine: I love to end my trips with luxury and relaxation. The saying “I need a vacation from my vacation” is not part of my ethos. One of my favorite activities in a new area is visiting local markets and grocery stores to immerse myself in the local culture. I also enjoy starting my mornings with a refreshing dip in the ocean, followed by a relaxing coffee in a plush hotel robe.
